The Mold Risk Calculator (initial release) calculates the days when mold can develop by considering two environmental factors: temperature and relative humidity. Both can be measured with a standard hygrometer and thermometer. A value of 0.5 or less indicates an environment with little or no risk of biological decay, while 0.5 indicates that mold spores are halfway to germination. In a real-world situation, the environment would be assessed over time to determine an ongoing overall progress in mold germination. For example: If the temperature and relative humidity near the surface where mold could grow are 25 degrees Celsius and 85%, respectively, the calculator calculates a risk of mold growth within 6 days. However, if the surface temperature remains at 25 degrees Celsius but the relative humidity drops to 50%, the calculator predicts a risk of mold of more than 1000 days, so there is no risk of mold formation. In future app versions we plan to include other mold growth models.
